Mohammed Bin Rashid Witnesses Thrilling Women’s Race at Al Salam Cycling Championship

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, attended part of the Women's Race at the 10th edition of the Al Salam Cycling Championship, organized by the Private Office of H.H. the Ruler of Dubai.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Dubai Police-Esaad team's Lorena Wiebes emerged as the champion in the 93 km race held at the Al Marmoom Reserve. The event featured top female cyclists from various regions, with a prize purse of AED460,000. Wiebes clinched the title and a prize of AED100,000 after an intense final stage in the Al Marmoom Reserve. Her teammate, Femke Markus, secured second place with a prize of AED70,000, while Nina Kessler from Dubai Residence Cycling Club A team finished third, earning AED50,000.

In team standings, Dubai Police/Esaad took the top spot, followed by Dubai Residence Cycling Club A and B teams. Mouza Al Mansoori topped the Emirati Women's over-40 category, while Yulia Polevaya of Airwerks Team 1 led the Open Women's over-40 category.

The race commenced at Al Qudra Endurance Village, moving through landmarks of Dubai before culminating at Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. The event was flagged off by Mohammed Al-Mousa, a Supreme Organizing Committee member.

Omair bin Juma Al Falasi, Director General of the Private Office of the Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee, expressed gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed for his support. He praised the participants for their enthusiasm and competitive spirit, highlighting the improved performance of female cyclists.

Al Falasi emphasized the championship's goal to increase participation and enhance community engagement. He noted the importance of empowering women in sports, aligning with Sheikh Mohammed's vision. The tenth edition includes two women-dedicated races, showcasing the commitment to women's contributions across sectors.

The championship, themed 'Ten Years of Achievements and Success,' began with the Emirati Men's Amateur Race and the Elite Race. Upcoming desert races for men and women are scheduled for late January and early February. The event is organized in collaboration with strategic partners, including Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, and other key entities.
