‘No Military Solution to Civil War in Sudan’: UAE

Abu dhabi: Jamal Al Musharakh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, emphasized that the ongoing conflict in Sudan cannot be resolved through military means. He highlighted the dire situation on the ground, stressing that a military solution is not viable for the civil war.

According to Emirates News Agency, Al Musharakh spoke at the 38th Special Session of the Human Rights Council on the Human Rights Situation in and around El Fasher. He conveyed that the QUAD's joint statement, facilitated by U.S. leadership, outlines a clear path to resolving the conflict. This roadmap includes a humanitarian truce leading to a permanent ceasefire and a transition to an independent civilian-led government, free from the control of the warring factions.

The UAE representative condemned the attacks on civilians by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher and across Sudan by both warring parties. He urged the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF to cease their hostilities against civilians, which he identified as severe violations of international humanitarian law.

Al Musharakh called for an end to the obstruction of humanitarian aid by the conflicting parties and insisted that the international community must hold those responsible for atrocities accountable. He expressed disappointment that one of the warring parties continued to launch indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas, prolonging the conflict and manipulating humanitarian aid access, while also harboring terrorists and individuals indicted for genocide.

He reaffirmed the UAE's long-standing solidarity with Sudan, noting their recent pledge of an additional $100 million to support urgent humanitarian efforts in El-Fasher. Al Musharakh stated the UAE's readiness to further contribute to the humanitarian response if necessary.
