Abu dhabi: The Digital School, a key initiative under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), has announced a new strategic partnership with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD). This collaboration aims to enhance the digital education ecosystem, empower Nigerian youth with digital skills, and prepare them for opportunities in the global digital economy.
According to Emirates News Agency, Ayodele Olawande, Nigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, emphasized the significance of this cooperation in opening new opportunities for Nigerian youth in skills development, technology, and innovation. He expressed gratitude to the UAE Government and the Digital School for their support in advancing digital education both in Nigeria and globally.
Dr. Waleed Al Ali, Secretary-General of the Digital School, highlighted the initiative’s focus on empowering youth by equipping them with essential digital skills. This approach aims to enhance their chances of securing jobs, participating in community development, and contributing to sustainable development. He described the partnership as a strategic step to expand international collaboration and reinforce a holistic digital education model, ultimately inspiring learners and providing real opportunities for success.
The collaboration centers on the development and expansion of the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) as a leading national platform for digital education, vocational training, and skills development. The Digital School’s ‘Skills Academies’ initiative will directly support this effort, empowering youth and preparing them for practical career paths in various fields.
The partnership also focuses on integrating technology and artificial intelligence into education and training, aiming to develop a workforce ready for the global digital transformation. It seeks to improve educational innovation, learning outcomes, and the readiness of educational systems for a technology-driven future.
Targeted training programs will be provided to facilitate the transition of youth from learning to employment, creating new opportunities and supporting entrepreneurship. This is part of a broader effort to develop professional skills in Nigeria’s rapidly growing sectors.
The Digital School, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in November 2020, is the first accredited digital school of its kind. It offers flexible digital learning options and targets underprivileged communities, refugees, and displaced individuals worldwide. The school currently serves over 750,000 students and has trained more than 23,000 digital teachers, providing content in seven languages.
