Abu dhabi: Abdulhakim Elwaer, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), highlighted the UAE's role as a strategic international partner in supporting food security at both regional and global levels.
According to Emirates News Agency, Elwaer noted that the UAE's National Food Security Strategy 2051 underscores the country's commitment to sustainable local production, efficient supply chains, and reduced food waste, which are crucial for the stability of food systems.
He pointed out that the UAE's influence extends beyond national borders, contributing to international dialogue on food systems transformation. The country is set to host Global Food Week 2025 in Abu Dhabi, positioning itself as a hub for multilateral action and partnerships in food security.
Elwaer elaborated on the synergy between the UAE's national policies and its international engagements, which enhances its reputation as a reliable partner in stabilizing food systems, especially in crisis-affected regions. The collaboration between FAO and the UAE integrates technical, institutional, and financial support, focusing on capacity building, knowledge transfer, and regulatory development for long-term impact.
Furthermore, Elwaer mentioned the active cooperation between FAO and the UAE's Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in organizing a regional dialogue on food safety in Dubai. This initiative has been instrumental in aligning regulatory systems with international standards and promoting expertise exchange.
