Senate President Faisal Fayez and the Vice-president of the German Bundestag, Aidan Ozoguz, Sunday discussed economic and parliamentary ties.
Fayez praised Germany’s economic support for Jordan amid regional hardship and Jordan’s hosting of over 1.3 million Syrian refugees.
The meeting focused on regional tension, with Fayez urging the international community, Germany and EU countries to stop the Israeli war on Palestinians.
Fayez called for holding Israel accountable for its conduct in Gaza and implementing the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the United Nations Security Council’s decisions calling for an end to the war.
He said Jordan rejects Israel’s expansionist and hostile policies and considers Israeli attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians as a “declaration of war that Jordan will confront forcefully.”
He said His Majesty King Abdullah II has constantly warned of Israel’s “aggressive” practices, adding that Israel’s continued policy of forced displacement and systematic killing, starving the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip, sieging Palestinian cities and using internationally prohibited weapons violate international laws and human rights principles.
Fayez urged Germany and the international community to support Jordan’s efforts to end the war and ensure regional peace.
Ozoguz praised German-Jordanian ties as “especially important,” noting that “people in Gaza and the Middle East are suffering due to the prevailing.
