Team Qatar will meet its Bahraini counterpart on Monday, at the beginning of its journey in the 17th Gulf Men’s Basketball Championship, hosted by Bahrain until Sept. 7.
The tournament will be held with the participation of only four teams, including Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the host country, Bahrain.
Team Qatar is scheduled to play against the Bahraini national team at 8 pm Monday, as part of the first round that will witness the Kuwaiti national team facing its Saudi counterpart at 5 pm.
The tournament will continue with the second round on Tuesday, where Team Qatar will meet its Saudi counterpart at 5 pm, while the Kuwaiti team will play its Bahraini counterpart at 7:30 pm. The third round will be held on Wednesday, with Qatar facing Kuwait at 5 pm, and Saudi Arabia facing Bahrain at 7:30 pm.
The semi-final matches will be determined based on the results of the first-round matches, with the first team meeting the third and the second team meeting the fourth, with the winners qualifying for the
final match.
Tam Qatar holds the record for the number of times it has won the tournament title, with 6 titles, and is looking to enhance its historical superiority over its closest competitor, the Saudi team, which has won four titles.
The Gulf Basketball Championship was launched in its first edition in 1981, and the Kuwaiti national team won the title, while the last edition was held in 2019, during which Saudi Arabia won the title for the fourth time.
Qatar holds the record for the number of consecutive title wins, with 4 titles, in 2009, 2012, 2014, and 2016.
