Dibba Al-Hisn’s dried fish festival draws 30,000 visitors


SHARJAH: The 11th edition of the Dibba Al-Hisn Dried Fish and Fishing Festival, which ran for four days on Al-Hisn Island, drew over 30,000 guests and generated over AED 1 million in sales for exhibitors.

Organised by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Dibba Al-Hisn Municipal Council, and Dibba Al-Hisn Municipality, this year’s festival featured a diverse selection of merchants offering dried fish items, fishing gear, and marine safety equipment. In addition, 14 government agencies, 30 commercial outlets, and more than 20 home-based companies participated in honouring the UAE’s rich nautical legacy.

Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, stated that the festival has become an important platform for celebrating Dibba Al-Hisn’s cultural history while also giving possibilities for participating businesses to sell their products and increase sales. He thanked the organisers for making the event a success.

Ahmed bin Yarouf Al Naqbi, Chairman of Dibba Al-Hisn Municipal Council, described t
he event as a cultural celebration that highlighted local crafts and goods. He underlined that the success of this edition was due to ongoing efforts and tight collaboration with relevant entities.

Talib Abdullah Al Yahyai, Chairman of the Event Organising Committee and Director of Dibba Al-Hisn Municipality, stated that the event continues to set new records, with higher sales and visitor numbers each year. He went on to say that a favourable response encourages the event’s continued development, which benefits the economy, tourism, and the preservation of national heritage.

The festival showcased unique exhibitions of dried fish production and maritime heritage, such as sailmaking, shipbuilding, fishing, and dried fish preparation, salting, and packing.
