Sana’a – Saba: The Community Services Center for Translation and Language Education, in collaboration with the Translation Department at the College of Languages at Sana’a University and the University Student Forum, organized on Monday a scientific symposium in celebration of International Translation Day, September 30.
In the symposium, Dr. Abbas Mutahhar, Vice Dean of the College of Languages, highlighted the establishment of the Translation Department in 2012, the first of its kind in Yemeni universities. He emphasized the department’s role in fostering cooperation and overcoming linguistic and cultural barriers, describing translation as an art that makes the unfamiliar familiar and facilitates global communication.
Dr. Ibrahim Taj El-Din, Director of the Translation Center for Community Services, praised the symposium’s organizers for their efforts and underscored the increasing importance of translation in the current age of rapid scientific and technological advancement. He also offered condolences
for the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, condemning his assassination by Zionist forces.
Dr. Taj El-Din emphasized the vital role of translation in facilitating the exchange of knowledge and fostering the growth of civilizations. He noted that translation, especially during times of war, serves as a powerful tool for preserving national and religious identity, exposing propaganda, and conveying the truth to the world.
The symposium featured several working papers, including Dr. Mujib Qasim’s “The Impact of Political Ideologies on the Translation Process in Understanding the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict,” Dr. Abdulhamid al-Shujaa’s “Criteria and Standards of Translation Quality,” and Dr. Abdulwadud al-Nazili’s “The Reality of the Translation Profession in Yemen.” Dr. Faisal al-Dawli discussed “The Use of Artificial Intelligence in Translation.”
The event concluded with entertainment segments, competitions, and the honoring of outstanding translators, including academics and students. Attendees also obs
erved a minute of silence in memory of the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary-General of Hezbollah, who was recently assassinated by the Nazi enemy.
