Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi said Saturday that Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Lebanon will not stop unless Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his far-right ministers are held to account.
“They could not have waged all these attacks, including those against (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon) UNIFIL units, had it not been for the impunity and weapons that many countries are still sending to them,” he wrote on X.
After one year of war, massacres and ethnic cleansing in Gaza, with thousands displaced, killed or injured in the West Bank and Lebanon, including journalists, humanitarian workers, Lebanese soldiers and UNIFIL members, the UN Security Council has no excuse for not living up to its obligations, and that it should lift Israel’s immunity and ban all arms sales to it, he said.
Countries that really want to end the dangerous regional escalation and endeavor for peace and security in the Middle East must immediately stop su
pplying Israel with the weapons it uses in its aggression, and must enact Chapter VII (of the UN Charter) to oblige it to comply with international law and end all its illegal wars immediately, he said.
Otherwise, this extremist Israeli government will undermine the credibility of international law and international institutions and drag the region into the depths of the abyss of an all-out regional war, the repercussions of which will reverberate far beyond the borders of the region, warned Safadi.
