Bodour Al Qasimi Opens Polish Edition of ‘Folktales Reimagined’

Warsaw: Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), Founder and Honorary President of the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY), inaugurated the Polish edition of the 'Folktales Reimagined' exhibition at the National Library of Poland. The exhibition is part of Sharjah's Guest of Honour programme at the 2026 Warsaw International Book Fair, themed "Two Civilisations: One Language of Letters".

According to Emirates News Agency, the exhibition was organised by UAEBBY in collaboration with the Polish Section of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). The opening ceremony was attended by Dr Tomasz Makowski, Director-General of the National Library of Poland; Mohamed Ahmed Al Harbi, UAE Ambassador to Poland; Marwa Al Aqroubi, President of the UAEBBY; Joanna Piekarska, President of the Polish Section of IBBY; as well as heads of delegations and media representatives from both countries.

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi noted that folktales serve as the memory of nations, conveying the values, emotions, and experiences that shape societies. Through the exhibition, the aim is to present these narratives in a modern artistic form, encouraging cultural dialogue and allowing artists to explore universal themes despite cultural differences.

Al Aqroubi provided insight into the 'Folktales Reimagined' project and its evolution since its inception. The exhibition seeks to reinterpret folk tales through contemporary visual art, fostering creative dialogue and allowing artists to reinterpret cultural heritage from different perspectives.

The exhibition includes works by Emirati artists inspired by Polish folk tales and features contributions from Polish artists who offer contemporary interpretations of Emirati folk stories. These artistic exchanges highlight shared cultural experiences and promote cultural understanding.

Visitors to the exhibition have responded positively, appreciating the blend of Emirati and Polish heritage and the encouragement of cultural dialogue. The Polish edition marks a new chapter for the exhibition, which has previously been hosted in several other countries, including Italy and Mexico.
