Ramallah – Ma’an – The lawyer of the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission said, after her recent visit to Etzion Prison, where 112 detainees are being held, that the prison administration continues to provide expired food to detainees.
In a statement issued today, Thursday, it explained that the prison administration provided, for a whole week, packaged sandwiches consisting of tuna, yellow cheese, and expired mortadella, and the detainees had no choice but to eat them, in light of the food shortage.
She pointed out that the abuse during the storming of the rooms is still ongoing, as the repressive forces herd the detainees into the corners of the rooms and force them to lower their heads in a harmful manner, then drag each detainee to another room, subject him to strip searches, and ask him to get up and down several times, under the pretext of searching for capsules inside their intestines.
She pointed out that fungi began to invade the bodies of the detainees, due to the lack of cleaning materials for the roo
ms, or bathing and personal hygiene supplies, and that the covers were damp and had a very bad smell, which made the situation worse.
In this context, the Authority’s lawyer conveyed the testimony of detainee Tariq Yousef Abu Matar (35 years old) from Ramallah, who has been in Etzion Prison for 20 days, who said: ‘This is my seventh arrest. I previously spent a total of 9 years in captivity, but I have never been subjected to such an amount of beating, violence and torture over the past years. My hands were tied behind my back and I was blindfolded. Then the soldiers threw me to the ground and beat me severely with their weapons and machetes all over my body until I was no longer able to move. After that, they took me to an army camp for 12 hours, during which the soldiers took turns beating me and forced me to squat the entire time. Then they tied me with an iron chain and placed a dog in front of me to scare me. I remained in this state until they transferred me to Etzion Prison, where I remained for 3 day
s unable to move, eat or go to the bathroom except with the help of my fellow detainees. After that, they interrogated me and issued a sentence of 6 months of administrative detention against me.’ Months.
