FNC Engages in IPU Coordination Meetings in Tanzania

Arusha:The Federal National Council (FNC) Group, led by Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, participated in coordination meetings with gulf, Arab, Asian, and Islamic groups in Arusha, Tanzania. These meetings were part of the Inter-Parliamentary Union's (IPU) 153rd Assembly and the 218th session of its Governing Council.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meetings addressed issues and emergency items on the Assembly's agenda, including vacancies for the Arab Group on IPU committees and the election of the IPU President.

During the Arab Group meeting, attendees listened to candidates for IPU President, reviewed Executive Committee activities, and agreed on candidates for vacant positions on standing and subsidiary committees.

The Islamic Group's consultative meeting discussed an emergency item proposed by Bahrain's parliamentary delegation. This item focused on ensuring freedom of navigation, maritime security, and the flow of international trade through maritime routes and straits in line with international law.

Dr. Marwan Al Muhairi, an FNC member, emphasized the importance of the proposed item amid navigation challenges, advocating for coordinated parliamentary positions and joint actions to support international efforts for safeguarding navigation, strengthening maritime security, and ensuring smooth global trade flow.

Ahmed Mir Hashim Khouri, another FNC member, noted the increasing significance of parliamentary diplomacy amid regional crises and cross-border challenges. He highlighted the UAE's efforts in integrating parliamentary and official diplomacy, supporting dialogue and peace, and the FNC's active role in the IPU and parliamentary friendship groups.
