Germany records more than 80,000 infections in one day for first time

Germany has registered more than 80,000 coronavirus infections in one day for the first time, according to figures released Wednesday by the country’s national disease control agency.

Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 80,430 new infections within a 24-hour period, up by more than 21,500 on the figure from a week before, according to German news agency (dpa).

The RKI reported a daily death toll of 384, up from 346 a week before. So far, 114,735 people have died in Germany after catching the coronavirus.
