The Women’s Department of the Human Rights Sector at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights organized on Monday a consultative meeting on the rights of women litigants, in the presence of several judges in courts and prosecutions and women leaders from women’s organizations and civil society.
In the meeting, many ministry leaders gave speeches stressing that the merger of the Ministries of Justice and Human Rights will result in the inclusion of the litigant women unit within the structure of the ministry, which will contribute to achieving the objectives of this unit and performing its tasks in the service of women litigants.
A paper presented by Legal Counsel Hamid Al-Rafiq, entitled “Women’s Rights in Litigation”, dealt with general principles and concepts about the rights of women litigants, the difficulties they face and possible remedies.
The meeting concluded with a number of recommendations that stressed the importance of making amendments to the legal texts prepared by a legal committee with the
participation of all parties, and intensifying workshops on raising awareness of the community and the relevant authorities.
It also recommended the establishment of legal aid units for women and the unit for women litigants in courts of appeal and first instance, prosecutions and police stations, activating human rights protection mechanisms in national legislation and providing guidance and awareness services for women litigants.
