Muslim Council of Elders calls for promotion of global solidarity, humanitarian cooperation

ABU DHABI: The Muslim Council of Elders, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, emphasized that the global crises of wars, conflicts, and natural disasters have highlighted the urgent need to promote and strengthen values of solidarity, compassion, charity, and benevolence. It stressed the importance of extending aid to the poor and needy, pointing out that charity is a noble human value and a collective responsibility that helps build stable and sustainable societies founded on justice and equality.

In a statement, the Muslim Council of Elders stated that Islam encourages acts of kindness and fosters a spirit of cooperation and solidarity within society. It has established the foundation for a strong and cohesive community, marked by love and brotherhood, urging individuals to compete in doing good and contributing to the welfare of others. Islam considers charitable work one of the greatest deeds that draw a person closer to God. The council called for intens
ified and unified efforts to promote global solidarity, compassion, and focus on addressing the needs of the most vulnerable and impoverished segments of society.

The Muslim Council of Elders has worked extensively to promote the values of human fraternity and global solidarity among all people, based on the principles of the Document on Human Fraternity which was co-signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, and His Holiness Pope Francis of the Catholic Church. The document advocates for providing aid to the weak, needy, marginalised, displaced persons, victims of war, oppressed individuals, prisoners, and the vulnerable, regardless of their backgrounds or affiliations.

The Council praised the initiative of the UAE Leadership, to allocate $5 million in support of the emergency polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip. This initiative followed the first reported case of polio in the region and was implemented i
n partnership with the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF, and UNRWA, aims to administer two doses of the polio vaccine to over 640,000 children under the age of 10 in Gaza, with the goal of stopping the virus’s spread and preventing a wider outbreak. The council noted that this campaign reflects the UAE’s ongoing humanitarian efforts and the wise leadership’s commitment to supporting global causes and assisting vulnerable and marginalized communities around the world.
