The New Alliance of Virtue (Hilf al-Fudul), held a meeting in Washington, chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Fatwa Council and President of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies.
The meeting was attended by members of the alliance and representatives of United States (US) entities working in promoting peace and tolerance, and the Special Assistant to the US President for Legal Affairs.
The meeting’s participants lauded the support of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the UAE’s vision to promote peaceful inter-faith coexistence.
During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah welcomed the participants, stressing that its purpose is to discuss the New Alliance of Virtue and a cooperation charter signed by the representatives of various faiths and cultures.
The meeting took place after the alliance’s official registration as a non-profit organisation in the US at a time when the world is facing many challenges, he added, stressing that the alliance is more important than ever.
The Alliance will operate in Washington and begin implementing its charter, by organising various activities and creative programmes that promote the alliance and enable it to achieve its goal of spreading the values of peace round the world.
The meeting’s participants talked about suggestions and ideas on how to strengthen the alliance, as well as its partnerships.
