Noura Al Suwaidi, Secretary-General of the General Women’s Union (GWU), received Anita Bhatia, Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director at the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and her delegation, at the headquarters of the GWU in Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting, both sides discussed cooperation and joint action in women’s empowerment.
Al Suwaidi welcomed the visiting delegation and highlighted the UAE’s keenness to enhance its strategic partnership with UN Women and promote women’s empowerment across all sectors.
The meeting also addressed the GWU’s efforts, upon the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, to support empowerment of women, peace and security worldwide.
The meeting also highlighted the UAE’s successes in women’s empowerment and its efforts to support their role across all social, economic, political, cultural, health and other vital sectors.
Bhatia praised the efforts of Sheikha Fatima and her key role in strengthening the UAE’s international stature in women’s empowerment, in line with global standards.
