The Music Program within NYU Abu Dhabi’s (NYUAD) Arts and Humanities Division announced the return of its annual Electrofest 2022 in person. Taking place on 27th March at 16:00 at The Arts Centre, the electronic music festival is free and open to the public.
Now in its third edition, Electrofest will present live, cutting-edge electronic music, video art, sound sculpture, turntablism, and improvisation. It will feature diverse works and performances by external collaborators such as music composer Joe Najm as well as turntablist and video artist James Kelly, alongside faculty and artists from NYUAD. These include vocalist and ElectraFest Program Head Clare Lesser, pianist Piano David Lesser, and Associate Arts Professor of Music, composer, and computer music specialist Carlos Guedes, among several others.
Through this year’s theme, Signals, the artists will explore how sound functions within a network of signals, stimulating music, video, and movement, and how the audience responds to and is part of this shared experience. A series of live panel discussions will also take place throughout the festival, bringing together artists and scholars from different countries and perspectives to delve deeper into this year’s theme.
“We’re very much looking forward to celebrating the return of Electrofest on campus with our community, especially after more than two years of remote public programming,” Clare said. “Now that we are back in person, we have adopted a new theme, Signals, which touches on the audience’s experience and response to the artists’ exploration of how sound functions across the arts,” she added.
The festival is open to the public but online reservation is required; with social distancing and limits to capacity measures in place.
