Islamabad: Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Saturday, welcoming the progress in US-Iran negotiations.
According to Anadolu Agency, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry reported that Dar and Prince Faisal discussed regional developments and bilateral cooperation, focusing on the ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran. The two ministers expressed optimism regarding the negotiations, which they described as reaching the final stage, with an electronic signing ceremony expected on Sunday. They voiced hope that this development would contribute to lasting peace, stability, and dialogue across the Middle East.
The Saudi foreign minister also acknowledged Pakistan's consistent support for mediation and diplomatic engagement throughout the process, as stated by the ministry. Additionally, both sides discussed preparations for the upcoming Regional Four (R-4) Foreign Ministers' meeting, scheduled to take place in Egypt later this month.
The conversation occurred amid intensified diplomatic contacts by Islamabad concerning the US-Iran talks. Dar also engaged in a telephone discussion with Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis. According to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, both ministers welcomed the "encouraging progress" towards an understanding between the United States and Iran, expressing hope that ongoing efforts would help promote regional peace and stability. Media reports citing sources have speculated that the signing ceremony could be held in Geneva.
Pakistan, which played a mediating role in the ceasefire during the US-Israeli war on Iran in April, has maintained regular consultations with key regional and international stakeholders for a permanent resolution to the conflict that has affected the entire Middle East.
