PM hosts head of ICRC delegation

Prime Minister Ahmed Al-Rahwi hosted the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Yemen, Mr. Juerg Montani, on the occasion of his appointment to our country.

The meeting, which was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Jamal Amer, discussed ways to strengthen relations in a number of priority areas, especially in relation to the ICRC’s contribution to relief and shelter efforts in areas affected by the floods, in addition to contributing to the rehabilitation of prisons and care efforts.

He discussed the ICRC’s humanitarian role in exchanging prisoners with the mercenaries and aggressor countries and the importance of strengthening the ICRC’s role in this aspect.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister welcomed the international official, expressing appreciation and respect for the humanitarian role played by the committee. He praised the strong relations between the government and the committee.

He emphasized the keenness to consolidate relations of coop
eration and joint work with high transparency according to humanitarian priorities and the real needs of the country, expressing hope that the beginning of the work of the head of the mission in the country will be a good start for a new phase of fruitful work in the humanitarian field.

For his part, Mr. Montani referred to the committee’s activities in emergency response, strengthening resilience and livelihoods and other essential activities, including the health sector, stressing the committee’s commitment to prioritize the most vulnerable aspects in the most needy areas.

He pointed out the committee’s commitment to the principle of neutrality in all its humanitarian activities, respecting the privacy, customs , traditions of society and adhering to transparency in its various activities.

The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s Secretary Dr. Rabih Shaker, ICRC’s Deputy Head of Mission Freya Radi and Assistant Heads of Mission Fatima Al-Yamani and Mohammed Qassim.
