Project to cultivate Tehama plain lands.. promising opportunities for self-sufficiency

The project of cultivating arable land in the Tehama Plain, which was launched in conjunction with the agricultural season of 1446 AH, represents a glimmer of hope for promising opportunities to achieve self-sufficiency in cereal crops.

The project, which is being implemented by agricultural cooperatives in Hodeida Governorate, reflects the leadership’s keenness and interest to mobilize efforts and energies to expand the cultivation of grain crops in the areas of the Tehama plain rich in bounties, by taking advantage of the rainy season.

Through this project, in which various parties combine efforts, the associations seek to activate the role of society, overcome the difficulties facing farmers, and provide them with seeds and 137 tillage equipment so as to activate contract farming and benefit from them in the cultivation of various types of grains.

The project also aims to take advantage of the rainy season to grow varieties and other agricultural crops in order to contribute to achieving tangible progre
ss to reach food self-sufficiency.

The first deputy governor of Hodeida, Ahmed Al-Beshri, said the implementation of the project comes after a number of meetings with representatives of agricultural associations to discuss plans and procedures necessary to cultivate 100,000 hectares of desert land and arable sand dunes in conjunction with the rainy season.

He noted the efforts to provide agricultural associations in mountainous provinces with diesel and seeds of all kinds in order to expand the cultivation of large areas of desert land with various agricultural varieties.

Human conditions stress the need for concerted efforts to achieve the success of the project by keeping pace with the agricultural season and exploiting agricultural opportunities on a large scale after the rains, thanks to Allah Almighty, included various parts of the country.

This project was considered an actual translation of the interest of the revolutionary leadership, the government and the local authority in the governorate to be
nefit from rainwater and go to cultivate arable land and expand the cultivation of various agricultural crops in the Tehama Plain, which represents Yemen’s food basket.

Chief of the Agricultural Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit in Hodeida, Yahya Al-Wadaei, along with chief of Bait Al-Faqih Agricultural Association, Abdul Salam Bahanan, and team of the project – which includes the cultivation of 100,000 hectares in the areas of the Tehama plain, with the support of the unit and community contribution – were briefed on the level of land cultivation in the Beit Al-Faqih district.

During their visit, Al-Wadaei listened to an explanation from the chief of the Association about work done by more than 40 equipment and tillage in term of cultivating arable land in the areas of the district, which is one of the largest districts.

He called on agricultural associations in various districts to carry out their tasks to the fullest in implementing and supervising the project to achieve great indicators in the cu
ltivation of desert lands and sand dunes and the exploitation of the rainy season.

He pointed out that Beit al-Faqih district represents a key tributary to the project of cultivating arable land under the auspices of the Agricultural Committee, the Ministry of Agriculture and the local authority in the province in partnership with the Tehama Development Authority, the Agricultural Union and the Bunyan and Seed Propagation Foundations.

The Director of the Agricultural Projects and Initiatives Financing Unit explained that the project embodies the ambition to exploit agricultural opportunities in the Tehama plain to meet the needs in achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural crops.

Chief of Beit Al-Faqih Association appreciated the support of the Initiatives Financing Unit and the relevant authorities for supporting the associations in the successful implementation of the project of cultivating arable land in the Tehama Plain, pointing out that this project would contribute to achieving fruitful results.
