Saudi Arabia to import 307,000 tonnes of wheat to maintain strategic reserves

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia will import 307,000 tonnes of wheat for this year, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Monday.

This will help the endeavour to maintain strategic wheat reserves at safe levels and fulfill milling companies’ requirements in the Kingdom, said Ahmad Al-Fares, Governor of the General Food Security Authority (GFSA).

The authority has granted the fourth tender for the imports. The wheat is sourced from the European Union, North and South America, Australia, and the Black Sea, Al-Fares revealed. The fourth contracted batch of shipments is scheduled to arrive between December 2024 and January 2025.
